Help Those in Need (An Original Poem)
During Lent we fast and pray;
Desiring to change our sinful way.
We give alms to those in dire need;
Not thinking of self but others' relief.
From the pains of life that weakens the heart;
We follow Christ Jesus, taking our part;
In his loving works and caring deeds;
Never forgetting our call to be:
Stewards of compassion, Givers of hope;
Procurers of peace, Ministers that cope;
With the ugly in life others neglect;
Because it's easy to simply reject:
The uncomfortable and the unsightly;
The smelly and the unclean;
The drunken man walking;
The homeless man unseen.
The hungry woman begging;
The thirsty child at breast;
The old man panhandling;
The mentally ill unrest.
God calls us to mercy
To kindness and to love
Those at their lowest,
Nobody wants to hug.
Let's eat with the hungry,
Sleep with the homeless,
Dine with the lonely,
Donate to the penniless.
Don't ignore the needy;
Because of life's cruelty.
Act like Christ our Savior;
Help end poverty.
Pray for those without;
People like you and I;
Who can use a Christian witness;
Hope they will survive.
Nothing is impossible with God!
